Five Bethesda Area Restaurants That Make Great Wings

Americans expected to eat more than 1.3 billion wings over Super Bowl weekend

By Nicole Cerquitella, Publisher January 27, 2021

This Sunday is the biggest football game of the year, and that means one thing ... it's time for wings in and around Bethesda!

The National Chicken Council estimated that more than 1.3 billion wings were eaten during the 2019 Super Bowl weekend — and that number just keeps going up year after year.

Bethesda, Chevy Chase and Potomac are no exception in their love for wings — and Bethesda area restaurants sure know how to make wings delicious enough we can't help but devour them down to the bone!

It seems everyone has their favorite Bethesda restaurants to order wings. Here are some of our favorite Bethesda restaurants to order wings:

Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza

7776 Norfolk Ave., Bethesda; (240) 781-6943

Wings we love: If you know this restaurant you know that their pizza is legit.  If you haven't tried their wings, though, I'm here to tell you - they're also amazing.   Served with focaccia bread, which my family loves, you can order their wings in Buffalo, "Dry Rub No. 2" and original with caramelized onions.   I love caramelized onions, and while it took a leap of faith to try it, caramelized onions proved to be a delicious topper to these huge chicken wings.

Brickside Food & Drink

4866 Cordell Ave., Bethesda; (301) 312-6160

Wings we love:  Brickside is known for its classic American bar food - and it delivers consistently tasty dishes everyone can agree on.   Brickside offers both bone-in wings and chicken tenders in a number of flavors:  Buffalo, BBQ, Old Bay, Garlic Parmesan, PB & Jelly, Honey Cayenne, lemon pepper, and mumbo.  They also offer a flavor of the month.  Purists love their classic Buffalo.  Brickside's Old Bay wings are a Maryland favorite.   For me, I love trying the unique flavors.  PB & Jelly was awesome, and I love the sweet and spicy of Brickside's Honey Cayenne.  This place is perfect for classic "game day" fare.

Chef Tony's Seafood Restaurant (Boom Boom Wings)

4926 St. Elmo St., Bethesda; (301) 654-3737

Chef Tony's at The Promenade (Boom Boom Wings), Bethesda

5225 Pooks Hill Road, Bethesda

Wings we love:  Chef Tony's masters everything it serves.  Their new Boom Boom Wings are no exception.   Perfectly executed and incredibly large (5 to 7 wings to the pound), if you love wings, these are incredible.   Classic Buffalo, Memphis BBQ, dry rub, lemon pepper, teriyaki, and orange mustard.  These are elevated wings in every way.  These wings are perfectly cooked and crisp, perfectly sauced with exceptionally developed flavors and accompanied by lovely dipping sauces or side tastes, like the pickled cucumber salad that comes with the teriyaki wings.

MOMO Chicken and Grill

4862 Cordell Ave., Bethesda; (240) 483-0801

Wings we love: Not your standard buffalo wings, but simply divine in their own right! MOMO offers spectacular Korean Fried Chicken wings in soy garlic, hot & spicy, half & half, and original.  You can do wings and fries and smile ear to ear, but MOMO also offers other tasty treats, like dumplings, miso ramen, bibimbap and bulgogi, too!

Quincy's Potomac Bar & Grille

1093 Seven Locks Rd., Potomac; (240) 500-3010

Wings we love: Whether you're a traditionalist about your wings or are willing to branch out to some more funky flavors, Quincy's hits the spot with its wings!  This Potomac location is newly opened with a heated, tented patio for your dining enjoyment.   Amazing wings, for sure!  The Chesapeake wings and Garlic Parmesan are my family's favorites.  For something totally new, try the Blackberry Habanero - definitely a winner!
