Five Bethesda, Chevy Chase & Potomac Breakfast Spots We Love

By Ann Hill, Publisher, Macaroni Kid BCCP April 17, 2019

My kids and husband love to go out to breakfast in Bethesda, Chevy Chase or Potomac on a weekend morning. I can't say I often tell them no.

After all, what’s not to love about breakfast? No matter what kind of breakfast you’re in the mood for -- the sweet or the savory -- you can find it in Bethesda, Chevy Chase and Potomac, MD.

So I've rounded up my family's choices for the top five breakfast spots in the area, along with the reasons that my family loves them. I've listed them in alphabetical order below. Be sure to double-check the information provided before you go in case something has changed and if you have a spot you love, please tell us!

Le Pain Quotidien (Bethesda & Potomac)

Cabin John Village in Potomac, 7993 Tuckerman Lane

Hours: 8:00am Saturday & Sunday

Wildwood Shopping Center in Bethesda, 10217 Old Georgetown Road

Hours: 7:00am Saturday & Sunday

What we love: I have one adventurous eater and one who isn't so much. You may think of Le Pain Quotidien as only appealing to the adventurous but you can't really go wrong with Skillet Eggs with Bacon or Dutch Mini-Pancakes! There are a lot of other great options, too, like the Dragon Fruit Smoothie Bowl and my personal favorite, Skillet Eggs with Avocado.  Outside seating is available at both locations although when crowded, it feels a little like sitting in a parking lot!

Pumpernickels Deli (Chevy Chase)

5534 Connecticut Avenue, NW./ Opens at 7:30am on Saturdays and 8:00am on Sunday.

Hours: (list specific times for breakfast/brunch, or just the regular hours if it's only open for breakfast and lunch)

What we love: There is so much to love about Pumpernickels Deli.  They have it all--the classics, amazing bagels and even Vegan fare. Be forewarned, the place gets crowded but it is worth every single minute you may have to wait. Parking can be tough at times although spaces are usually available off of Connecticut on side streets. Outside seating is available.

Stella Bara (Bethesda)

11825 Grand Park Ave, North Bethesda, MD

Hours: 10:00am-2:00pm

What we love: KIDS EAT FREE (10 and under) on Saturdays and Sundays!  They have their own "kids buffet and pancake bar."  I mean, who doesn't love a pancake bar? There is also a great variety and a lot of of healthy, fresh options.

Tally Ho (Potomac)

9923 Falls Road

Hours: Saturday 8:00am-9:00pm, Sunday 9:00am-9:00pm

What we love: Tally Ho is a family-owned business that has been in Potomac Village forever!  In fact, they used to be located in the back of a long since gone pharmacy. When my Mom and I would be waiting for prescriptions, we'd sit at the counter and order a "float."  You can order breakfast all day and it is always a great meal.

Tastee Diner (Bethesda, Silver Spring, Washington, DC)

77311 Woodmont Avenue, Bethesda

Hours:  24 Hours

What we love: Because I grew-up in the area, I have a fondness for the Tastee Diner.  Instead of going at midnight with my high school friends, however, it is early morning on a weekend with two kids. Wake-up late?  Want breakfast for dinner?  No problem, they serve breakfast all day.

Hungry yet? Me too. Time for breakfast.
